I second the recommendation of the Disc World series. Intricate and zany, and light on relationships that could be triggering. Rick Riordan's Marcus Chase series has an interesting take on Norse mythology, but the relationships could be a problem. You could have the patron look at them. Have to confess that I haven't yet read Neil Gaiman's Norse Mythology book, so don't know what might be a problem. He does have some disturbing themes.
