75 Years of Boxcar Children: New and Old

In my time as a public librarian, I had a love-hate relationship with extended chapter book series. On the one hand, they fall apart easily, can be repetitive, and once a kid gets stuck on one, it can be hard to get them to try anything else. On the other hand, many kids fall in love with reading because of they just can't get enough of series books. Series sell!

2017 will be a big year for Boxcar Children fans, with 75 years of the Alden family. Use the tools in this email to please fans of classic mysteries featuring headstrong, resourceful kids.

Yours truly,

Lindsey

"She [Jessie] took the string out of the laundry bag and tied one end of it to a tree. The other end of the string she tied to the boxcar. This made a good clothesline."

Why do fans like this series?

·         Old-fashioned values are exemplified, such as hard work, family first, and never giving up.

·         Resourceful kids find a way to survive with no or little adult supervision.

·         The Aldens travel to many places, solving mysteries along the way.
