Hi, Tracy:

We contract with an incredible graphic designer here at DeWitt DL. We base our contract on a fixed dollar amount every month and an expectation of 20 hours per week. This makes the billing simple and allows for a great deal of flexibility with scheduling.

He's done a lot for us including, but not limited to:
We have definitely received a great deal of value from this relationship. Because he's a contractor, we coordinate with a job board that is checked regularly so he can work on items on his own schedule as long as they're done by the due date. It's been a really good process and it's certainly less expensive than hiring a full-time employee or outside agency.

This person has an extremely prolific background in design work for both digital and print, certification in UI/UX processes, and experience being a brand manager at for-profit, non-profit, creative agency, and governmental organizations. Here's a link to the slide presentation I gave at a recent conference that illustrates some of his work.

Hello Collective of Wisdom,

Do you employ someone at your library to oversee your marketing efforts? Or do you contract with someone for this service? We are exploring the idea of a marketing person on staff (or contract) and I would love to hear how you navigate this. How does it work? Are you seeing good results from those efforts? What size library are you? Thanks for your responses!
