[Michlib-l] Barcode Scanner question

I need opinions, and I know that there is never a shortage of those on the listserv! We need to replace our barcode scanners - one is broken, the other one is old and tired. I've looked at Demco; their prices range from $160 - $700! I've also been looking at Amazon where prices are much more reasonable (less than $100). Does anyone know whether I can use the less expensive scanners? Have you used them at your library, and if so, what was your experience? You can reply to me off list at galesburglibrary@hotmail.com.
