Job Posting: Librarian II 1.0 FTE

POSITION:                 Librarian II 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week)

Adult Services (YDL-Michigan Avenue)

NATURE OF WORK:

Under the direction of the Branch Head, the Librarian II provides public information services to adults in a variety of settings. Such services include reader’s advisory, reference in print and electronic formats, computer assistance, and programming.  Participates in collection development and maintenance within departmental guidelines.  Contributes to the YDL website.  Other responsibilities may include assignment to subject or service specialty areas. Temporary assignments in other departments or at any YDL location may also be made to meet the changing needs of the library and to adequately cover the public service areas of the library.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA accredited library school. Enthusiastic, friendly, positive public service orientation. Excellent oral and written communication skills.  High level technology and Internet expertise.  Must be eligible for certification according to the Library of Michigan personnel standards. Previous public library experience desirable.

TIME/HOURS:

40 hours per week. YDL provides library services seven days per week.  Schedule includes regular evening and weekend hours, including Sundays.

SALARY/BENEFITS:

Salary range:             $37,997 - $49,584 (Per Current YDL-AFSCME Contract)

Full benefits package offered includes family medical, dental, and optical insurance; generous paid leave including twelve paid holidays, plus life and disability insurance. Employer retirement contribution after one year of service.

This position is part of the AFSCME union.
