Hi Everyone, It is great to see that the discussion is highlighting the variety of resources available through having a Library of Michigan library card. The Library of Michigan continues to make a concerted effort to offer a wide range of digital content to our cardholders that is predominantly available through remote access. I do need to point out that ProQuest indicated that remote access to Ancestry Library Edition was to discontinue on December 31, 2021<https://support.proquest.com/s/article/Ancestry-Library-Edition-Temporary-Remote-Access-for-Public-Libraries?language=en_US>. Although it appears that ProQuest initially did not shut-off remote access to the Library of Michigan's Ancestry Library Edition subscription, going forward we have removed that remote access feature so that the Library of Michigan is in compliance with our subscription agreements. MyHeritage Library Edition continues to be available remotely throughout Michigan through the Michigan eLibrary<https://mel.org/libraries/general?a=m> so that is a viable alternative to Ancestry Library Edition. Although remote access to our Ancestry Library Edition account is turned off, we encourage you and your patrons to get a Library of Michigan library card<https://www.michigan.gov/libraryofmichigan/public/get-a-library-card> to take advantage of all the other newspapers and family history resources that are still available remotely at: www.Michigan.gov/LMdatabases<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.michigan.gov%2FLMdatabases&data=05%7C01%7COsterA%40michigan.gov%7C9ea482801c454a765f7b08daa170005a%7Cd5fb7087377742ad966a892ef47225d1%7C0%7C0%7C637999799654214356%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=n5p03coW3f%2BB%2FOdOnpTNFS1wVjmqBdBDfkNKQ3dinUQ%3D&reserved=0>. Please send suspicious emails to abuse@michigan.gov<mailto:abuse@michigan.gov> Any Michigan Resident can get a Library of Michigan library card, which has access to not only newspapers but also AncestryLibrary Edition. Through the recent newsletter about updating the password for the Library of Michigan card, I was able to find out access was available online with my Library of Michigan card. For those libraries that are or have discontinued their AncestryLibrary Edition, this may be an alternative solution for patrons to promote. What a great way to have access and promote the Library of Michigan library and use their online resources. Amber Alexander Library Director, MLIS Presque Isle District Library 181 E. Our patrons apparently got used to using it at home in the last couple of years. We had respectable numbers before the pandemic, but not so much anymore. Does MyHeritage serve your patrons' genealogy needs? We like the fact that it's free to us through Mel eLibrary.
