We also survived! It did take all of our energies to keep smiles on our faces - but we all made it to the end. We started this adventure with over 1000 glasses. We held back 200 for our viewing party. The phones rang non-stop all Monday morning (not to mention the 1,000s of calls the previous week). I was astounded at the turnout. At our event we handed out one pair of glasses per family or per party - to make them last. We asked that people return the glasses when they left the library grounds so other people could get a glimpse. We estimate we had about 600 people in attendance. Everyone shared marvelously. We only had a few grumpy people that were upset with us for not having enough glasses and for not being allowed to take them off grounds. All in all it was a great turnout - most everyone was truly appreciative of us providing them the viewing venue. I would definitely do this again - but I would save all the glasses for our event! We survived the eclipse! We had 200 pair of glasses to pass out (after sharing our stock with other libraries) and did limit to 2 per family at our event starting at 1:00 today. Everyone was patient and accepted our 2 pair limit and we had over 500 people in attendance at our "little" library (not everyone stayed here to view the eclipse). Our parking lot was full of people--local and from outside our area--- sharing glasses to watch the eclipse for over an hour and a half. It did help that we fed them snacks of Little Debbie's "Moonpies, Cosmic Brownies, and Star Crunchs". While they all had fun, the staff is glad to no longer have to answer the phone calls asking about the glasses. We're glad it's over! We made it!! We received 200 pairs of glasses and only passed them out at our 2 programs. The first program was last month and 40 attended, so that left us 150 pairs for today. We held strong and did not pass any out ahead of time (whew, that was hard!). We expected maybe 100 people. We had activities such as coloring pages, word search, galaxy slime, plus moon themed snacks and of course the coveted eclipse glasses. We ended up with more than 300 in attendance with many waiting in line for 30 minutes or more to receive their glasses. We ran out in the end and the last groups had to share. The best thing about the day, besides the awesome turnout, was the fact that almost all were very respectful, calm, and willing to share. I hope your day went as well as ours!
