I wanted to remind everyone to take Action *today* (if you have not already) to request our Michigan representatives to sign the Dear Appropriation Letters for LSTA/IAL. The services that the Library of Michigan provides through LSTA funds (*including MeL*) are critical to my students, all students in the state, and all residents in the state. I know that both Randy Riley and Shannon White shared information on the depth of services that are provided to Michigan libraries and residents through LSTA funds. It looks like the only Michigan Representatives who have signed the current letter for LSTA, thus far, are Deborah Dingell and Sander Levin. Please consider taking action today. Eliminating the IMLS, and the LSTA program, would have devastating impact on statewide library services that are provided by the Library of Michigan. Michigan receives approximately $4.3 million per year in IMLS funding. IMLS/LSTA funds and mandated state matching funds support the Michigan eLibrary (MeL) including databases, eBooks and MeLCat, the statewide library catalog and resource-sharing network. Other programs supported by LSTA funding including early literacy resources and continuing education for librarians such as the Rural Libraries Conference.

But our library champions in Congress have mobilized to fight back and they need your help to succeed.
