I find the whole thing kind of fascinating. I had never heard about it until this year, nor even any conversation about it - and now it seems like EVERYONE is getting these messages! I finally got "Aaroned" yesterday. I don't plan to respond. There's been a lot of discussion about what to do on ALSC and PUBYAC listservs as well. Some people think it's wonderful that it may (or may not) be kid(s) who just want to participate and be involved with libraries; most seem to think it's scammy. I think the fact that it doesn't seem like we've heard from a single other "participant" - just Aaron Yang - is telling. And apparently I was Aaroned yesterday. We are a very small library and there is no way to justify sending him prizes that are intended for our children. My policy on any email asking for something, or to be added to our web page, is that it is a bulk email and they will never know what I do with it. So it goes straight into the trash. Interesting conversation. I have never heard of this in the school library world and we're really dealing with the same patrons. I'm glad I have been paying attention. What a crazy thing to be happening! and who has this much time on their hands? I just wonder if public libraries around the US are sending this person/group prizes to make it a lucrative venture??? I think I will share with my MAME colleagues and post on LM_NET. Word really needs to get out about this and the delete button taken advantage of.
