Michigan Library Safety Programs

 

Join MCLS, Michigan Library Cooperative Directors Association, Library of Michigan, Michigan Academic Library Association (MiALA), and Michigan Library Association (MLA) this fall for two programs on safety in libraries.

Library security: A safer place

September 6, 2017, 9:30am - 2:30pm

(Registration 9:30-10am; Program will begin at 10am)

University Center, Gaylord, MI

Cost: $40, includes lunch 

Dr. Steve Albrecht, PHR, CPP, BCC, CTM will present this program, which will include a hands-on component with role playing scenarios, exercises,
and tips for creating policy. This fun, information-packed, empowering day will help your library be a more secure place.

Creating a culture of safety and security in your library

September 7, 2017, 9am - 3:30pm

(Registration 9-9:30am; Program will begin at 9:30am)

Dearborn Public Library, Dearborn, MI

Cost: $55, includes lunch

Dr. Steve Albrecht, PHR, CPP, BCC, CTM will be the keynote. His presentation will focus on practical tools to keep your staff safe,

developing policy, and dealing with challenging and threatening patrons.

 

Jodie Layne, activist and founder of Safer Spaces Winnipeg, will present on "Libraries as safer spaces," including defining, "What is safe space"

and how to use victim-centered responses in order to help patrons feel safe at our libraries.

 

Eva Davis, director of Canton Public Library, will share with participants best practices for working with community groups to

create public events for any special population to make all feel welcome in your library.
