Andrea participates in the Program for Cooperative Cataloging programs: Monographic Bibliographic Record Program (BIBCO); Name Authority Cooperative Program (NACO); and Subject Authority Cooperative Program (SACO). She is also an adjunct professor at Indiana University, Department of Information and Library Science, School of Informatics and Computing, and an adjunct lecturer for University of Washington, Information School. She regularly leads cataloging workshops for Indiana Library Federation and the Ohio Valley Group of Technical Services Librarians, and we were thrilled to welcome her as an instructor for MCLS this past year. This workshop will focus on PCC NACO practice, some suggestions for best practices, and lots of MARC examples. Examples will be given for both personal name and corporate name authority records. Register>><https://store.mcls.org/index.php/new-marc-fields-in-name-authority-records.html> Original cataloging of sound recordings using RDA<https://store.mcls.org/index.php/original-cataloging-of-sound-recordings-using-rda-89.html> September 27-28-29, 2pm - 4pm Eastern (1pm - 3pm Central), online (3 day class) Doug Koschik is the Director of the Baldwin Public Library in Birmingham, Michigan, and is also an adjunct professor at Wayne State University's School of Library and Information Science. Doug has taught a variety of cataloging and classification classes at MLC and MCLS since the mid-1990s. This workshop teaches participants how to do original cataloging of physical sound recordings (CDs, MP3s and cassettes, both musical and nonmusical), using such tools as RDA and OCLC Bibliographic Formats and Standards. The class will address original cataloging in the MARC format. The instruction will cover issues like the preferred source of information, physical description, authorized access point, content/media/carrier types, and choice of additional access points. In addition, participants will learn the MARC fixed and variable fields for sound recordings, and will study the relationships among these fields. Several MARC record examples will be examined, and three hands-on exercises will be included. The online versions of the RDA Toolkit and OCLC's Bibliographic Formats and Standards will also be used. PLEASE NOTE: Basic navigation in the RDA Toolkit will NOT be covered. You will need to attend Original Cataloging of Monographs Using RDA prior to attending this program.
