Did you know that public libraries in Michigan can benefit from TRIG (Technology Readiness Infrastructure Grant)?

By using the Device Purchasing Program (http://22itrig.org/activities/device-purchasing/) libraries can purchase computers, laptops, tablets and other digital equipment at much lower prices? Last year the Kalamazoo Public Library saved thousands of dollars and even switched our catalog computers to Chromebases for a fraction of the cost!! (http://22itrig.org/downloads/device_purchasing/device-purchasing_april_2016.pdf)

Visit the TRIG Website today (http://22itrig.org)! If you have questions are need help getting started, please email me! You can even sign up for the TRIG newsletter to keep up to date on upcoming important dates!

Sincerely,

Kevin

StarThank YOU Star Elementary!

Every once in a great while you receive such a meaningful piece of feedback that you just have to share - that's exactly how the TRIG Operations Office felt about this amazing video put together by one of our Total Site Transformation (TST) Schools in Hastings Area School District, Star Elementary.

From Keith Tramper, Instructional Technologist at Kalamazoo Regional Educational Service Agency : "On behalf of Star School, thank you so much for supporting us through this grant. The 1:1 environment has transformed the way that our teachers are teaching and our students are learning. We hope this video helps you understand the impact you have and how much we appreciate the opportunity TST has provided us."

CoSNDid You Know?

IT Trends from Across the US

In a survey of K-12 IT Leaders from across the country, it was found that the priorities of IT Leaders have recently shifted. As reported in the CoSYN 2016 K-12 IT Leadership Survey:

"For the past four years, we have asked IT Leaders to indicate their top three priorities (from a list of 20 options). For the first time, "Assessment Readiness" does not appear as one of the top three. That drop-off in the rankings is likely an indicator that districts are now more prepared for online assessments than they have been in the past. This year almost half of all districts (48%) rated themselves as "fully prepared" compared to less than a third (28%) in the prior year. Seventy-five percent (75%) of all districts are either "fully prepared" or "almost ready," indicating a large majority is in good shape for implementing their high-stakes online assessments."

http://files.ctctcdn.com/230eb80e301/54bb0dc7-4905-458c-aa68-1dc2cda49d6a.png

"Taking over as the number one priority for districts is "Broadband & Network Capacity." This makes sense in light of the other two priorities in the top three-Wireless Access and Mobile Learning. The three priorities are intrinsically linked. The infrastructure that pursuit of these three priorities enables would provide for online assessment, which could explain the de-emphasis on "Assessment Readiness."

Program Integrity Assurance Update

Program Integrity Assurance (PIA) inquiries have officially begun for funding year 2016. We are seeing inconsistency in the communication of the PIA requests, level of detail in the notification, and PIA Newsfeed information is not consistent with the News Brief issued 4/26/2016 regarding PIA notifications in EPC (see http://www.usac.org/sl/tools/news-briefs/preview.aspx?id=687)

Please stay tuned for future information regarding PIA in the new EPC system. Questions about E-Rate can be directed to Ann-Marie Mapes at MapesA@michigan.gov.
