We did use zoom, with aver videoconferencing equipment, to host the League of Women Voters event earlier this week and stream to two other libraries in the area.  The initial feedback from that event seemed positive.  We also used it to bring a remote public lecture from an MSU professor to Alpena.  Zoom is not free for the host, which we purchased because it seems like it solved some issues with allowing traveling library board members to attend meetings.  I think zoom is good for interactive events between a limited number of parties.  For recording and posting programs, we use youtube and a standard digital video camera to put the events online for those who could not attend live.  I should note that many performers/presenters have contract language prohibiting making recordings or broadcasting, in which cases, we always honor.  There is other software out there, which we are still exploring.

Andrea,

We have a smart board that we hook up to laptop.  The streaming service was free through Zoom.

Subject: Re: [Michlib-l] Streaming/Recording library programming?

Hi Andrea,

Our paths cross again. I am back in the public library world. I became director here Sept. 17. Fantastic job with a great staff and board.

The Presque Isle District Library in Rogers City just live streamed a League of Women Voters program from the Alpena County Library on Sept. 24. I was there. So I would contact Amber at PIDL. I'm sorry I don't know who the tech person at Alpena County Library is---I was not involved with the setup.

Maybe I will see you at MLA. Michigan library rules and regs are much simpler than DLGF and SBOA.

Best,

Rose Frost

Anyone out there streaming or recording library programs?

What platforms are you using?

Any special equipment you would recommend?

Do you have forms for presenters which allow the presentation to be recorded/streamed?

How are you making these accessible later?

Any advice for streaming vs recording for later access only?

We've got a few patrons who are basically home bound in the winter. They've been requesting this service, and this is the year we're going to make it happen (for some of our programming).

Any advice is appreciated!!
