Cathy, For a 17-year-old I would suggest something more mature like I Hunt Killers by Lyga, Barry or One of Us is Lying by McManus, Karen. They both include a psychological thriller along with the mystery. You can always go to Novelist Plus via MEL and get a good list of mysteries for older readers.
