LIBRARY ASSOCIATE I (ADULT SERVICES)

Date: December 7, 2021

Position open until filled; for full consideration apply by January 4, 2022

Reports to: Head of Adult Services

SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Head of Adult Services, the Library Associate I provides positive, pleasant and professional customer service

to patrons at the library’s Reference desk. Assists department librarians in developing and presenting adult programs, classes, exhibits,

displays and other informational and recreational programs. Assists patrons in the use of popular computer software programs, mobile

devices and electronic resources including databases, ebooks, audiobooks, downloadable music, downloadable magazines, streaming media,

and online courses. Provides back up support to other departments as needed. Works with staff throughout the library on projects that

enhance the library’s image in the community.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

· Bachelor’s degree in a related field must be completed within one year of hire.

· 2-4 years of public/customer service experience, public library experience preferred.

Schedule: Part time, 32 hours per week, including days, nights and weekends.

Union Position: Westland Library Union SEIU Local 517M (non-Supervisory)

Salary: Starting at $15.50 per hour

Benefits: Prorated vacation leave, personal leave and paid holidays for employees working 20 or more hours per week.

Eligible for Qualified High Deductible Health Plan.

Employer provided contribution to retirement (401a) after meeting service requirements.
