Join the Kelly® Professional & Industrial team as a Reference Librarian at a college in Flint, MI. Working Part time and paid $19.11

Reference Librarian will provide reference and research assistance to the college students, faculty, staff, and others utilizing the Library, using a variety of electronic and print resources. In addition to providing library orientation and instruction to individuals and groups using library resources.

What a typical day as a Reference Librarian might look like:

  • Provides in person and virtual reference service to students, faculty, staff and others, utilizing print collections and a wide array of online information resources and databases. Instructs and assists patrons in searching electronic and print resources.
  • On weekends and after 5:00 PM the Reference Librarian is the Library building supervisor, responsible for coordinating work study students, closing the library and interpreting library policy.
  • May conduct general or subject-focused library orientation for selected groups of students and faculty; may prepare and provide classroom instruction.
  • Librarians may assist with evaluation of the Library’s collection and resources.
  • Librarians may assist with the creation and maintenance of LibGuides.

Minimum requirements as a Reference Librarian:

  • Master Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited institution is preferred or significant course work in reference services.
  • One year experience as an academic reference librarian.
  • Ability to work effectively and interdependently in a diverse academic environment.
  • Knowledge of and facility with online library catalog systems, Internet reference resources, and online databases.
  • Ability to work as an active team participant within the library and on campus.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills with an emphasis on providing good user service.

7. Work Anticipated Schedule:

  • Schedule 1: Monday 8 am-12 pm, Tuesday 8 am-12 pm, alternating Sundays 11:45 am-5 pm.
  • Schedule 2: Monday 3-7 pm, Tuesday 3-7 pm, alternating Sundays 11:45 am-5 pm.
  • Schedule 3: Friday 11:45 am-5 pm, alternating Sundays 11:45 am-5 pm.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience in providing resources to students in distance learning environments.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the development of print and web-based instructional materials for courses, orientation sessions, workshops, tutorials, and information pathfinders.
  • Experience in a community college library setting.
