ALSC partners with Netflix on Bookmarks: Celebrating Black Voices

The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) has partnered with Netflix in support of Bookmarks: Celebrating Black Voices, a collection of 12 episodes featuring prominent Black celebrities and artists reading children's books from Black authors. 

As part of the Bookmarks project, ALSC also shared its #LooktoLibraries resources to encourage families to explore the power of connecting with children’s library professionals. The Look to Libraries materials were created to help families navigate life during the pandemic and include tip sheets for families on a range of topics. Read more

 

AASL offers COVID Recovery Grants

Through a special offering of its Inspire Collection Development Grant, made possible through the generous support of Marina “Marney” Welmers, the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) will offer grants to specifically address collection loss and remote access requirements due to COVID-19 school closures.  Read more

Thirteen new and renovated libraries—and the architecture firms that designed them—have been recognized in American Libraries’ 2020 Library Design Showcase, which appears in the magazine’s September/October issue and is available online. Read more

 

Applications open for 2021 AASL awards

Applications for the American Association of School Librarians’ (AASL) 2021 awards are now available. AASL members are encouraged to nominate a colleague or themselves to be lauded for their outstanding talent and dedication to the profession as part of this prestigious awards program. AASL awards and grants recognize excellence and showcase best practices in the school library field in categories that include collaboration, leadership, and innovation. Read more

 

AASL partners with the Human Rights Campaign to help LGBTQ students THRIVE

The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) is partnering with the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation on its Project THRIVE. Project THRIVE is a multi-year national campaign to create more equitable, inclusive support systems and help families and youth-serving professionals become better equipped to affirm, support, and care for LGBTQ youth.

“AASL’s partnership with Project THRIVE demonstrates the association's commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion,” said AASL President Kathy Carroll. “I am thrilled we have the opportunity to work with Project THRIVE to support LGBTQ young people in our learning communities.
