Subject: RE: Connected Science Learning Journal--Request for help to spread word about USPTO Summer Teacher Institute

Dear ISE colleagues,

Please help us pass the word about this “free” professional development opportunity for K-12 formal educators.  The date for accepting applications for the USPTO Summer Teacher Institute has been extended.     The application deadline is now Monday, April 18, 2016.   All other dates remain the same.  That is, we still expect to notify individuals selected to participate by early May.

Request:  Please help us get the word out about the extended opportunity to apply for the 2016 program.       Flyers with links are attached for your convenience and distribution.  Thanks for your help to get the word out about the extension.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is offering its 3rd. annual free, multi-day professional development training for elementary, middle, and high school teachers in July 2016. "Making," invention, and concepts of intellectual property (IP) will be explored as a means to inspire and support STEM learning in the classroom.   We will be in Michigan this year on the campus of MSU.  MSU has several Maker Space labs on campus, including the Engineering Maker Space Lab and The Hatch, participating teachers will have access to these spaces during the course of the Institute to facilitate hands-on making, design thinking, and innovation based projects.  Projects within these Maker Space labs will allow participants to have practical experience in understanding concepts of IP and an immersion experience that allows them to translate lessons learned to their own classrooms.

Space is limited, apply today for the USPTO National Summer Institute on Innovation, STEM, and Intellectual Property (NSTI).  The deadline for teachers to apply is March 15. Click here to learn more.
