If the model number is the same, go for it. If it’s a different model balance cost and any added value a local or not so local vendor would add.
In my experience, laser bar code readers just work – or just need reprograming and then they just work for years and years.
My preferred vendor is RACO Industries.

Subject: [Michlib-l] Barcode Scanner question
I need opinions, and I know that there is never a shortage of those on the listserv!
We need to replace our barcode scanners - one is broken, the other one is old and tired. I've looked at Demco; their prices range from $160 - $700! I've also been looking at Amazon where prices are much more reasonable (less than $100).
Does anyone know whether I can use the less expensive scanners? Have you used them at your library, and if so, what was your experience?
You can reply to me off list at galesburglibrary@hotmail.com.
Thanks!
Helena
