Hi Julie,

Michigan's Records Management Service provides expertise and assistance to state and local government agencies with managing records and information in the most effective, cost efficient, and legally compliant manner, including providing digitization services.

Depending on the reason for digitization (whether as a replacement of the original or simply to improve access to the information) there are some additional considerations in order to comply with the Records Reproduction Act to ensure that records are available for FOIA purposes.

Here are some additional resources regarding records management from the state to help determine whether and for how long documents should be kept:

The research and resources above are for informational purposes only and not for the purpose of providing legal advice. You should contact your attorney to obtain advice with respect to any particular issue or problem. The Library of Michigan cannot endorse specific vendors or brands. Libraries should contact vendors and other experts for advice and to ensure that their choice reflects the unique needs of that library.

Hello,
I have had an inquiry from our township office about digitizing records.

Does anyone have experience with and/or can recommend a company that will come in to help organize and digitize many years worth of office records?

Thank you!
Julie
