The Deputy Director will play a key role in library management and administration. As part of the library leadership team, the Deputy will provide direction, oversight, management, and innovation for excellent programs and services. This position provides oversight of public services operations, human resources, and system-wide programs and outreach. The Deputy supports and participates in intra-county departmental cooperation. A collaborative leadership style, an openness to change, a commitment to customer service and sound knowledge and experience for fulfilling community expectations are core to this position. Qualifications. Minimum qualifications include an ALA-accredited Master's Degree in Library Science or a closely related field, five years of progressively responsible experience supervising the operations of a multi-branch library system, and three years of supervisory experience, or any equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work. Desirable attributes and skills include project management experience; public service and administrative policy/procedure development and implementation; grant administration experience; personnel management; experience working with Library Advisory Boards and Friends groups; and collaborative community partnership development. The Deputy Director will also exhibit creativity, energy and enthusiasm; superior written and oral communications skills; collaborative and consensus building skills; experience in recruiting, mentoring, evaluating and retaining an excellent staff; and a thorough knowledge of current library trends, technologies and best practices.
