Library associations underscore importance of IMLS COVID-19 efforts
The library organizations listed below released the following statement today in response to the new collaboration announced by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to support the nation’s libraries and museums as they consider safe reopening practices in light of COVID-19. Read more
The Public Library Association (PLA) and Microsoft Corp. announced a new initiative today to increase access to technology in rural communities during the COVID-19 crisis. Microsoft will provide funding to help public libraries in rural communities extend WiFi access by installing public WiFi access points on or near library grounds. Read more
Celebrate 10 years of preservation this Preservation Week, April 26-May 2
This month marks the 10th anniversary of Preservation Week®, a public awareness initiative that aims to promote preservation and conservation in communities with the help of libraries, institutions and museums. Although we are in the midst of a global pandemic and are unable to gather to celebrate the anniversary April 26—May 2, the mission and purpose of Preservation Week persists, perhaps in new and different ways. GLBT Book Month™ given new name
Formerly known as GLBT Book Month™, the American Library Association (ALA) will now observe the month of June as Rainbow Book Month™, a nationwide celebration of the authors and writings that reflect the lives and experiences of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, pansexual, genderqueer, queer, intersex, agender and asexual community. 2020 YALSA Teens’ Top Ten nominees announced
The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association, has officially announced the 2020 Teens’ Top Ten Nominees. This year’s list of nominees features 25 titles that were published between Jan. 1, 2019 and Dec. 31, 2019. Read more
