
You may also use parental leave as a part of Unpaid Leave of Absence and allow either parent to use unpaid leave. We have it noted as needing to be used in the first 3 months of birth or adoption. Length of maternity leave is usually established by the organization, so updating that policy to give her more time off would be something you can also use to attract/retain employees.

I've been looking over our maternity leave policy in preparation for a staff member, and it's pretty antiquated. I'd love for anyone who's willing to share their policies with me. The employee is not eligible for the FMLA since she's not been here a year yet, so anything that deals with that situation, in particular, will be extremely helpful.
