The award-winning Peter
White Public
Library is considered by many to be the heart of the city and
county of
Marquette; the “jewel” of the diverse and progressive
communities the library
serves. The Board of Trustees is seeking a seasoned leader, with
strong skills
in financial and personnel management, and who will embrace
active involvement
in the community.
The
Peter White Public Library serves a population of over 36,000
with a
budget of $1.775 million and a staff of 37.
The Library is housed in a landmark building that serves
as the hub of
the community, offering programming and services beyond those of
most
traditional libraries, as well as outstanding customer service. For more information about

Marquette is located in Michigan’s
beautiful Upper
Peninsula, which offers four seasons of outdoor recreation. On

Position
requirements: A
graduate degree in
Library and Information Science from a program accredited by the
American Library
Association; a minimum of seven (7) years of post-degree
employment in a public
library, of which at least four (4) years have been as an
executive or senior
manager; possession of (or the ability to obtain at time of
hire) a Level I
Michigan professional certificate; proven financial management
skills; excellent
inter-personal and communication abilities; demonstrated
experience in leadership
and team management; ability to work effectively with multiple
constituencies
and government officials on a local and state level; and
well-versed in public
library operations and funding.
Additional
qualifications: Ability
to develop a
vision of library service and inspire others; the ability to
multi-task in a
fast-paced environment; a thorough understanding of library
technology and its
applications; and a strong passion for the importance and role
of the library
in the community. Successful
experience
in a millage or levy campaign and facility management desirable.

Compensation: from the mid $70s; dependent on qualifications and
