Makerspace Specialist

 

 

Position:                 Makerspace Specialist

Supervisor:             Adult Services Manager; cooperates closely with Youth Services Manager, Outreach & Bookmobile Services Manager, and Director of IT.

Salary:                    $33,841 (Bachelor’s Degree) - $40,694 (Master’s Degree)

Schedule:              37.5 hours per week, including evenings and Saturdays as needed

Benefits:                 Insurance (health, dental, short-term disability, and long-term disability); pension contribution; vacation, sick, optional deferred compensation and flexible medical reimbursement plan.

Primary Job Duties:

                   

      Works closely with Adult, Youth, and Outreach Services to develop and maintain Maker- and STEAM-related programming for patrons of all ages.

      Develops and implements new and emerging technology, services, and projects for the makerspace.

      Operates and maintains makerspace hardware (3D printers, laser engraver, and other equipment).

      Develops a training plan for staff on relevant equipment; informs staff of updates or changes to equipment or procedure.

      Provides technology instruction to patrons and staff, including e-reader and tablet use, and the use of electronic resources, including databases, ebooks, e-audiobooks, downloadable music, downloadable magazines, and streaming media, one-on-one and in a group setting.

      Assists patrons with the use of makerspace equipment.

      Demonstrates technology outside of the library at community events

      Responsible for connectivity, maintenance, and use statistics for electronic resources.

      May serve as a backup on a public service desk.

      Participates in relevant committees.

      Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

      Bachelor’s degree

      The desire to meet the public and serve patrons of all ages

      Robust computer and technology skills

      Familiarity with makerspaces

      Inspired to provide exceptional customer service

      Artistic proficiency and creative mindset

      Ability to work independently with little supervision

      Skill in planning and presenting appropriate programs for young children, teens, and adults

      Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels

      Strong oral and written communication skills

      High level of energy and self-motivation to create new services and programs

      Willingness to maintain a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends to implement programming


Desired Characteristics

      Masters in Library Science coursework

      STEAM education background

      Experience working in a public library

      Awareness of new developments and trends in public libraries

      Knowledge of coding, CAD, and Adobe suite

      Grant writing experience
