serve? If so, you may be the person to lead the Adrian (MI)
District Library!
Due to
retirement, the Board of Trustees is seeking an accomplished
leader who will continue the nearly 150-year tradition of a
positive, community-centered culture to become the Library’s
next Director. The Adrian District Library is an independent
governing unit, serving a population of over 21,000 with an
operating budget of nearly $1 million and a dedicated,
enthusiastic staff of 12 (3 with the MLIS degree). The
community demonstrated their continuing strong support for the
Library with a positive vote for a 10-year operational millage
in May 2015. The Library building, in the heart of downtown
Adrian, underwent a major renovation in 2009, adding 3200 square
feet that includes a Teen Zone, a quiet seating area in the
Loft, a Café, and a renovated Tween space in the Youth Services
area.
Adrian is
located in southeast Michigan, and is home to Adrian College and
Siena Heights University, as well as a satellite campus of
Jackson College. Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Toledo are all within

The position requires a master’s degree in
library science or library and information science from a
program accredited by the American Library Association and a minimum of
six (6) years post-degree experience in a professional public
library position, of which at least two (2) years have been in a
position of administration and supervision in a public library.
The successful candidate must have a
thorough knowledge of all facets of public library service;
broad knowledge regarding the use and application of
technologies in a library environment; a proven record of
positive personnel management; the ability to manage and
prioritize multiple projects; excellent communications skills;
strong financial management abilities; the ability to work
effectively with other governmental agencies, civic and
community groups, and the general public; experience in
utilizing strategic /short and long range planning to guide
library operations; and the ability to address challenges in a
collaborative and creative manner. In addition, familiarity with
district library governance and knowledge of Michigan library
law would be a plus.

Compensation: Mid- $60s
dependent on experience and educational qualifications.
