Not sure if this will help, but there's an organization called Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan that provides regular training opportunities to defense attorneys. You could scroll through the list to find names of speakers for a wide range of legal topics, including forensics. I saw an amazing session on fire investigation when I worked for the Macomb County Bar Association.
