DIRECTOR

BRIGHTON (MI) DISTRICT LIBRARY

If you believe the library should be the heart of the community, then you may be the right person to serve as Director of the Brighton (MI) District Library!  Due to the retirement of the current director, the Board of Trustees is seeking an experienced administrator with a proven record of financial and personnel management, and who is committed to a collaborative, collegial approach.  The successful candidate will be an energetic and dedicated professional, well-versed in current and emerging trends and best practices in library services.

Still retaining the charm of a small town, Brighton offers the amenities of “big city“ life, including a variety of housing options, an excellent school system, access to higher education opportunities, numerous cultural attractions, and beautiful recreation areas.  Brighton is located in a growing area of southeast Michigan, within easy driving distance of Ann Arbor, Detroit, and Lansing.   As evidenced by the recent passage of a millage levy with 72% approval, the library enjoys outstanding community support.  BDL serves a population of 43,000 with a budget of just over $2 million and a staff of 65 (20 MLIS) who take pride in providing excellent customer service.  To learn more about the Brighton District Library and the community visit: http://www.brightonlibrary.info.

Additional requirements include strong verbal and written communication skills; the ability to develop and articulate a vision for library service and inspire others; a thorough understanding of library technology and its applications; and a collaborative style that will continue the library’s tradition of a teamwork environment.  Experience in district library management would be a plus.
