Branch Manager / Scottville Librarian
Pay range: $28,000 - $32,000 35 Hours per week – Evenings, Weekends
(including Sundays) and Holiday hours.
Supervisor: Library Director.
Status:
Exempt.
Location:
Primarily Scottville Branch, some hours in Ludington.
Summary:
The Scottville Branch Manager will oversee daily operations of the
Scottville branch of the Mason County District Library. This person will perform all library
functions, as well as manage a small staff.
Essential Functions:
- Coordinates and supervises the work of 4+ staff;
participates on interview teams and helps select staff; provides training
in branch operations; assigns tasks; monitors, evaluates, and provides
feedback on work performance; plans and conducts staff meetings; oversees
the preparation of work schedules; verifies and approves timesheets on a
bi-weekly basis.
- Assists patrons at the public service desk by providing
reference services; answering of questions regarding collections, Library
services and policies; interpreting patron needs and conducting research
necessary to obtain sources of information.
- Oversees and participates in the selection and ordering
of materials in accordance with branch materials budget for the Library's
collection based on patron interests, statistical reports and information
needs. Reads review sources and catalogs to become familiar with new
materials in all formats. Oversees the maintenance of the collection
including the shifting of books, weeding and discarding of materials,
displaying of new or seasonal materials and reviewing donated materials.
- Oversees and performs functions including, but not
limited to: the coordination of program scheduling; planning, organizing
and implementing of library programs and outreach that meet the adult
population needs including underserved communities; providing programs for
library adult patrons; networking with community groups; developing
partnerships and overseeing the preparation of reader's advisory materials
and reports. Monitors participation and interest in programs by reading,
interpreting and submitting reports and/or data.
- Supervises the maintenance and upkeep of the branch
building and grounds, furniture, and equipment, by communicating budget
and facility needs with library director and providing assistance or
taking responsibility as needed.
- Participates in short and long-range planning,
recommends policy and establishes procedures, develops action plans, and
leads local planning efforts of new or expanded facilities. Gathers staff
input for the purpose of establishing branch goals that correlate to MCDL mission
statement.
- Prepares the annual branch and local budgets including
the projected costs of staff, materials, equipment, furniture and other
budget items; calculates, estimates and submits budget to Library
administration for approval; implements, monitors and spends approved
budget.
- Oversees the recording and submission of appropriate
statistics. Oversees the counting and recording of monies taken in and
ensures the balancing of the cash drawer daily; and verifies money is
forwarded to the main branch for processing.
- Update and maintain web content on the Internet.
Plans and communicates branch technology needs. Evaluates new technology on
behalf of the branch.
- May provide technical support and assistance to Library
staff and patrons in the use of computer and other library equipment;
performs routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting tasks. Effectively
facilitates access to MCDL's digital collection by providing
demonstrations of and assistance with multiple format eReader devices.
- Represents MCDL professionally and in the
community. May write and submit
local grants.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Library Director
and/or Assistant Director.
Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree required, MLS
preferred.

Ability to travel between work
locations and related places of business as needed.
·
Comprehensive knowledge and
understanding of the principles, methods and practices of public library
operations. The incumbent is also required to have comprehensive knowledge of
the policies and procedures of Mason County District Library.

Considerable knowledge of available
circulating materials and basic reference sources.
·
Demonstrated knowledge of public
library computer hardware and software applications.
·
Demonstrated management and
leadership skills necessary to plan and administer the services of a library.
·
Ability to work under general
supervision with latitude in exercising independent judgment and discretion
subject to Library policies and procedures and professional practices.
·
Interpersonal and communication
skills necessary to work with a wide variety of individuals and establish
effective working relationships with local government officials, civic leaders,
community group leaders, Library patrons and personnel.
·
Analytical ability to research
information; maintains statistical records and summarizes findings in a written
document.
·
Visual acuity and physical skills
necessary to retrieve library materials from shelves and storage areas,
maintain library materials and operate equipment. The incumbent is required to
have the physical ability to push/pull fully loaded book carts and lift/carry
materials weighing up to 40 pounds.

Hearing ability to answer telephone
and patron inquiries.

Computer
skills necessary to effectively utilize word processing and spreadsheet
computer software applications and Internet services.
