United for Libraries designates Pennsylvania library a Literary Landmark in honor of Modernist author United for Libraries, in partnership with Lehigh University and Bethlehem (Pa.) Area Public Library, will designate the library a Literary Landmark in honor of Hilda Doolittle (H.D.) on Friday, Sept. 8, 4 p.m. Growing up, H.D. (1886-1961) lived in a home located just across the plaza from the library, where city hall now stands. Her innovative and experimental poetry and prose established her as a leading Modernist artist in the 1910s and 1920s.
