CITY OF ADRIAN ADULT SERVICES LIBRARIAN

The Adrian Public Library is seeking a creative, enthusiastic, service-oriented librarian to supervise the day-to-day operations of the Adult Services Department.  Duties include reference and Reader’s Advisory, collection development, cataloging, programming and internet use.  Familiarity with automated library systems (Polaris preferred), electronic databases and digital collections is required.  Strong interpersonal and communication skills and knowledge of current and emerging technology needed.

Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited university plus professional certification by Library of Michigan.  Two years of professional public librarian experience with progressively increasing responsibility is strongly preferred.  Schedule includes evenings and weekends.  Salary range: $45,826-$57,488

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Adrian Public Library is seeking a creative, enthusiastic librarian to join a positive, team-oriented work environment and lead our adult services department.  The Adult Services Librarian is part of the library’s management team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Adult Services Librarian is responsible for:  providing reference and Reader’s Advisory services at the Reference Desk; serves as Librarian in Charge (LIC) in director’s absence; adult programming including summer reading program; local history/genealogy collection and research services; marketing of adult programs and services including press releases.

Participate in library planning and development and policy formulation through staff meetings/task forces. 

Collection development for adult department; supervises the cataloging/processing of materials and performs original cataloging; assist with website and social media (Facebook and Twitter)

The successful candidate must demonstrate strong customer service, reference and information skills, as well as leadership skills.  Supervisory experience preferred.  Schedule includes evenings and weekends.

OTHER REQUIRED/PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Thorough knowledge of library principles, practices and techniques including collection development and cataloging and classification of library materials.   Ability to plan, organize and direct project work.  Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:       Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited university

EXPERIENCE:              Public library/reference desk experience is highly desired.

Preference given to candidates with at least 2 years experience as a public librarian.
