Please note that our closing date is this coming Sunday the 21st as we want to review applications starting Monday. *Job Opening* *Library Assistant 1 – Kingsley Branch Library/Local History Collection* *Part Time* We have a unique opening for an energetic, team-oriented person to fill a Library Assistant 1 position whose time will be split between the Kingsley Branch Library and the Local History Collection at the Main Branch. This person will work 19.5 hours a week under general supervision to support the Kingsley Branch by performing both para-professional and routine library work including the planning and implementing of a variety of programs and outreach efforts in addition to regular day-to-day duties. This person will work an additional 10 hours a week in the Local History Collection developing and curating the collection; and processing incoming and legacy materials. This position will also be responsible for developing, maintaining, and providing access to the local history collection; and adding content to the online digital collection. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Work is performed under the general supervision of the Department Coordinator or designated employee of higher authority. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES An employee in this position will be required to assist in the operation of the library by performing any or all of the following essential duties and others as assigned. · Assisting patrons in locating information in various formats; - Providing general instruction to library patrons on library use; - Being responsible for brochures, both online and physical displays, and bookmarks; - Assisting with general library reference and readers’ advisory services; - Speaking to groups; - Planning and assisting with various library programming as required; - Upholding library behavior policy; - Developing and curating the local history collection in reference to the Materials Selection Policy; - Processing incoming and legacy materials, including rehousing, preservation and conservation work - Digitizing priority collections and publishing them to TADL’s digital collection online; and - Performing related library and clerical work as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESREQUIRED: Considerable knowledge of library procedures, policies, practices and methods;REQUIRED: Ability to work effectively with individuals of all ages of the general public and other employees; REQUIRED: Skill in the use of computers and electronic mobile devices; REQUIRED: Ability to communicate effectively;REQUIRED: Willingness and availability to work weekends and evenings with flexibility to fill in for unexpected staff shortages as needed;REQUIRED: Willingness and ability to work at other library locations as required. EDUCATION *REQUIRED:* Bachelor’s degree or 5 years of comparable library experience. *PREFERRED*: MLIS or some coursework in Library or Information Science. *EXPERIENCE* *REQUIRED:* Two years of work in a library setting. *PREFERRED:* Michigan Professional Library Certification. *PREFERRED:* Public speaking experience.
