The most common responses:

·         Take a digital picture and toss the damaged item. One clever response was to include this picture in a letter to the patron.

·         Put the damaged, especially if liquid damaged, in a plastic bag and hold from 1 to 6 months.

·         Have a clause in policy to address hygienic, mold or health hazard, that these items will have their picture taken and disposed of immediately.

·         Send a letter detailing the damage and the item. This provides proof the patron was contacted.

·         Most respondents stated their library did not have a formal policy.
