We are seeking an enthusiastic, team-oriented individual who excels in customer service to provide leadership and management support to the District Library for Circulation Services.  This individual will work under the Assistant Director of Technology to provide outstanding customer service to library patrons through a variety of customer service related, clerical, sometimes physical tasks as well as management and supervisory duties.  This employee may be transferred to another location at any time to meet the needs of the library system.  Please see the attached job description for full details.  Evening and weekend hours may be required.


Wage Range:                    $21.56-28.38  in annual wage steps according to the current                                               union contract

Job Title:  Circulation Coordinator                      Classification:    Library Assistant 4 – FT

Department:  Circulation                                      FLSA Status:       Non-Exempt

Reports to:     Assistant Director of Technology    Effective Date:  June 17, 2021


 

SUMMARY

The Circulation Coordinator, a member of the management team, is responsible for articulating and promoting Library best practices in the development and implementation of circulation patron services, community outreach, departmental budgeting efficiency,  as well as the supervision and professional growth of the Circulation team. Duties may require independent judgment and action within specific parameters. In addition, the Circulation Coordinator is responsible for training staff throughout the district on the Evergreen ILS and on MeLCat and is the Main branch contact person for RIDES.  

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual in this position must be able to meet or excel in the following representative responsibilities, knowledge, and abilities:

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Selects, trains, monitors and appraises performance of the Circulation staff according to library policy.

·         Trains all District and Contract library staff on the Evergreen ILS and on MeLCat.

·         Oversees the process of checking materials in and out of the district library.

·         Oversees the handling of money at the circulation desk.

·         Coordinates the library’s involvement with MeLCat in relation to circulation.

·         Coordinates the Main branch library’s involvement with RIDES in relation to circulation.

·         Collaborates with other departments on community outreach.

·         Participates in short- and long-term planning for the District.

·         Provides statistical data regarding library usage on a monthly basis to the Library Director and Board of Trustees.

·         Prepares related reports and correspondence and attends Key Staff meetings. 

·         Analyzes delinquent accounts and works with outside agencies on collection issues and processes.

·         Provides input for budget development and monitors expenditures.

·         Resolves patron service complaints and problems.

·         Performs related duties as required.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

·         Considerable knowledge of best practices for providing public library service.

·         Ability to work effectively with the public and co-workers.

·         Ability to interpret and apply library policies.

·         Skilled in resolving complaints and personnel conflicts.

·         Ability to lift 30 lbs on a regular basis.

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and OTHER Qualifications Include:

·         Associate’s Degree with Bachelor’s Degree preferred

·         Five years of customer service experience

·         Three years supervisory experience

·         Valid Michigan Driver’s License
