I had several requests to share my findings about hosting a Scholastic Book Fair at the library.
I spoke with the Rep from Scholastic, and here are a few important details:
They will send 5 cases with items K-8 plus table items to fill 6 tables.
They have premade advertising for social media and premade posters.
Profits over $3800 earn 50% scholastic dollars, under $3800 40%. These dollars do not expire. If you choose a cash option, the % is significantly less (check if this is an option at your library; it was not for ours).
They provide a cash register; we would need to provide start-up $ for change. The register takes credit cards, also.
All tax is rolled into the price of the books, and Scholastic takes care of the tax issues.
The fair would last 1 week.
We have no liability for theft.
I hope this helps. Since we are considering doing this in the summer, we feel we will not hurt the school's profits when they host their fairs.
Thanks.
