Hello,
I just wanted to share some of the great things happening at Capital Area District Libraries.
Capital Area Reads Title
We’re excited to announce that CADL patrons chose
There There for our 2020 Capital Area Reads title. This debut novel by Cheyenne and Arapaho author Tommy Orange is a breathtaking, complex and haunting look at contemporary urban
Native life. It was a finalist for the 2019 Pulitzer, among many other awards. We will host an appearance from the author in spring of 2020.
Expansion of Student Success Initiative
Thanks to Haslett Community Schools and Ingham Intermediate School District, this fall 2,700 more students will join this initiative. CADL’s Student Success Initiative helps local students access library services and resources more easily.
Instead of keeping track of physical cards, all students within a participating school district can provide their student number or student ID to check out
up to three books, magazines or audiobooks at a time, use our digital collection and library public computers. We launched this initiative last year with 500 students from Webberville Schools. We hope to add more districts
throughout the school year.
Library of Things Jr. (ad attached)
We’re welcoming a new addition to the family! Library of Things Jr. is filled with items kids can use for school or fun. Use an Adult or a Youth card to check out
items like these:
• Botley Coding Robot Activity Set
• City Building Blocks
• American Girl dolls
• Polaroid Cube Act II Action Camera
Our original Library of Things collection is very popular and includes bus passes, Rokus and musical instruments.
Library Card Promotions
CADL secured FREE print and digital ads from Lansing State Journal to communicate the value of a library membership. In addition to money saving services we will create awareness
of our Member Rewards program which provides discounts on selected performances at Wharton Center and performance venues in Detroit. We also conduct Member Meetup events as a great opportunity to connect members with one another and our staff.
