JDL is seeking a strong, energetic, positive person to fill the role of Assistant Director. This person will report to the Library Director and assist the Director in overseeing the operations of the library system. In addition, the role of the Assistant Director includes supervising a team of outstanding Branch Managers, Customer Service Specialist, as well as the Community Engagement Manager. You must be flexible and radiate positivity as you work with the JDL team to promote the service-minded culture and vision of JDL.

We are always growing and changing and currently the hot projects include the renovation of a new, larger library space to be completed in January 2023, a full remodel of one of our branches to be completed in the Fall of 2023, refreshing our look at some of our branch locations, and conversations in some of our communities that could lead to new and exciting opportunities for JDL! These are all things the Assistant Director will play a lead role in developing, overseeing, and managing as we move forward.

As a senior member of the management team, this person will also assist in preparing and maintaining the library budget, participate in collection development, and have the opportunity to be the voice of JDL with local partners and organizations and positively promote the library and its services.

Every day you will be charged with leading and planning library operations and programming. Mentoring and growing staff, developing partnerships, evaluating staff levels and budgets, and working with an amazing admin leadership team are just some of the opportunities that await the new Assistant Director.

The successful candidate will possess an MLIS or its equivalent from an ALA accredited institution and will demonstrate management and leadership skills with a minimum of five to eight years of progressively more responsible public library experience involving supervision, branch library services and programming, and organizational development. Other combinations of education and experience which could provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job may be considered.
