TITLE: Emerging Technologies Librarian – Full Time

SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week

REPORTS TO: Branch Manager

SUMMARY

The Grosse Pointe Public Library is seeking a professional and resourceful Emerging Technologies Librarian to support the Library’s customer service needs. The Grosse Pointe Public Library is a Class 6 Library, with a service population of 52,000+ people and three branches. There is strong community support for the Library and its collections, services and programs offered. Technology is integrated into Library services. The successful candidates will have the desire to work in a collaborative, team environment and take pride in providing prompt and friendly service to customers of all ages, and have a passion for serving the community.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Collaborate with colleagues to identify, recommend and implement emerging technology for adoption by the library

·         Participate in emerging tech-related outreach to the public library community

·         Perform ongoing evaluation of digital resources to assess use, usability and value

·         Support and manage access to the Library’s digital resources

·         Provide technology training to staff as needed in cooperation with Information Technology department

·         Creation and posting of content to website and online calendar, when necessary

·         In cooperation with Adult Services team, present culturally relevant and thought- provoking programs to the community

·         Participate in the selection of appropriate print and electronic resources for the Library, with a focus on reflecting the growing cultural diversity of the community

·         Provide reference and reader’s advisory to patrons, through use of print and electronic resources

·         Provide patron assistance and instruction in the use of library computers, catalog, electronic resources, digital downloads and Wi-Fi

·         Monitor and assist patrons and program presenters with use of meeting room and equipment, when necessary

·         Creation and posting of content to website and online calendar

·         Provide excellent customer service to the public

·         Supervise library environment to maintain safety and fair enforcement of library policies

·         Provide excellent internal customer service and teamwork to GPPL staff

·         Promote the services of the library and make recommendations for improvements

·         Other duties as assigned

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

                                           Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science (or equivalent) from ALA accredited university

                                           Enthusiasm for serving the public

                                           Knowledge of and ability to apply collection development principles and techniques

                                           Ability to effectively plan and organize work

                                           Familiarity with electronic methods and resources to analyze collections

                                           Effective oral and written communication skills

                                           Ability to work successfully in a team environment

                                           Knowledge and enthusiasm for emerging information technologies and trends

                                            Knowledge of automated library systems and equipment

                                            Knowledge of current publishing practices and consumer use

                                            Familiarity with developing and managing collection budgets
