Just a reminder that the Library of Michigan has already purchased the PLA Early Literacy Calendar (featured in the PLA message below) for public libraries across Michigan.

So, to recap, the following materials were sent directly to public library directors (via LibPass, the Annual Report channel) on Friday, as part of our Ready to Read Michigan program! Due to limited quantities purchased I cannot share the links widely via this listserv, but once your director forwards them to staff you are free to download the materials and use as you see fit to engage your patrons/community:

The project described was supported by the Preschool Development Grant Birth through Five Initiative (PDG B-5), Grant Number 90TP0002, from the Office of Child Care, Administration for Children and Families, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Its contents are solely the responsibility of the authors and do not necessarily represent the official views of the Office of Child Care, the Administration for Children and Families, or the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Thank you,

2021 Early Literacy Calendars

Daily literacy-building activities to share with your library's families.

Calendar image with daily literacy activities

Share these bright and colorful reproducible calendars with your library’s families. Based on the Every Child Ready to Read practices of reading, writing, singing, talking, playing (and now counting), each download contains twelve months of learning activities, book lists, nursery rhymes, and more!

On one side is a calendar with daily skills-building activities and the other contains supplementary content like nursery rhymes, early literacy tips, song lyrics, or suggested reading material. The calendar pages are also customizable with each containing a designated spot to add your library’s logo and contact information. Use these calendars to help your library’s patrons engage in early literacy activities every day of the year.

Herrick District Library (Holland, Mich.) has incorporated the 2020 Early Literacy Calendar into its online resources by creating a gallery of early literacy activities and caregiver tips, which includes on-demand videos of children's librarian sing-a-longs, book recommendations, and PDFs of the calendar. View their gallery to get ideas on how to maximize the 2021 calendar activities in your library!
