The Library of Michigan is seeking currently enrolled students to join our team! These are in-person part time positions of up to 24 hours per week. Position: Student Assistant (Part-time) Pay: $13.50/hour Hours: 20 to 24 hours per week, Mon-Fri between 8am and 5pm, with occasional Saturday hours Location: Library of Michigan, 702 W. Kalamazoo St, Lansing MI (in person position) Deadline: Open until filled EDUCATION: Current enrollment in vocational or technical school, or post-secondary educational institution. The student must provide evidence of enrollment or acceptance to an educational institution. DESCRIPTION: General Student Assistant duties include shelving books, scanning library materials, processing library materials, and assisting with mail sorting and distribution. Many of the assignments require various computer software, and some tasks are repetitious in nature. This position requires careful attention to detail, good computer skills, and the ability to quickly learn new software. Student Assistants are assigned to one of the following areas, in addition to the general duties described above. 1) Processing and MeLCat - The majority of the work will involve processing, labeling and rehousing of library materials, shelving books, assisting with MeLCat work, using our ILS system (FOLIO) to check out materials to borrowing libraries and patrons, creating patron accounts in FOLIO, and processing and packaging incoming and outgoing library materials. 2) Law Library (within the Library of Michigan) - Duties will predominantly entail assisting the Law Staff in administrative and clerical functions within the State Law Library such as shelving books, collection maintenance, and filing. 3) Digitization - Duties include scanning print documents using a variety of scanners and processing files to prepare them for loading into the digital asset manager. This can include image editing, file renaming and organizing, running optical character recognition software, and data processing.
