Living in the UP and having a large geographic area (2,300 sq miles) the weather can be intense and can vary greatly between locations. If we have to close for weather, it is done in a location-by-location
determination, meaning even if we close on Drummond Island, we may be open at the seven other libraries in the district.
Our policy is that if people are scheduled to work, and we have to close the library for any reason (weather, power outage, etc) everyone scheduled to work that day gets paid their usual pay, and they do not
have to use any of their PTO hours.
We also pay for jury duty.

Subject: [Michlib-l] Questions about policies regarding Snow days, jury duty and other days off
If a salaried employee is called for Jury Duty, the employee's regular pay shall be maintained by the library for a period of, but not to exceed 5 working days. Salaried employees are required to reimburse
the library for the jury pay received (Excluding travel reimbursements) while regular pay is maintained. Jury duty beyond 5 days required a leave of absence without pay. Hourly employees will not receive compensation from the library for jury duty.
So, my question is how do other libraries treat jury duty and employee pay? Current jury duty pay in the state is a measly $30 a day for the first 5 days and $45 afterwards. Since my hourly employees make more
than $15 an hour, they will be losing money. Doesn't seem fair.
Sincerely,
