Position: Librarian II, Teen Services Librarian
YDL is seeking a dynamic, innovative public services librarian who enjoys working with urban teens!
Nature of Work: Under the direction of the Branch Head, the full-time (40 hours per week) Teen Services Librarian provides public services to teens using YDL-Michigan Avenue. Such services include developing and maintaining the library’s collections for teens; providing reader’s advisory and reference assistance in print and electronic formats; serving as the library’s advocate for and liaison to teen populations; and planning, promoting, and implementing programming for teens.
Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Library/Information Science from an American Library Association accredited institution with an emphasis on teen populations. Enthusiastic, positive public service orientation. Knowledge of the philosophy and techniques of public library service, specifically to teen populations. Ability to qualify for certification according to Library of Michigan certification standards. Previous public library experience serving teens in an urban setting desirable.
Time/Hours: 40 hours per week. Schedule includes daytime, evening, and weekend hours (including Sunday shifts).
Salary/Benefits: Beginning annual salary: $38,756.99. This position is part of the AFSCME union. YDL offers generous paid time off plus family health, dental, and vision benefits. Employer retirement contribution begins after one year.
