of ALA's Public Policy & Advocacy Office to learn more about the campaign and how library board members/Trustees, Friends, and Foundations can get involved. In addition, find out about United for Libraries resources specifically for Trustees, Friends, and
Foundations as they support libraries facing challenges to materials and programs.

Help support diversity in library boards; responses due April 15
The
ALA Emerging Leaders team for United for Libraries is working on a project to help provide information and resources that will support Library Directors,
Boards, Foundations, and Friends Groups in building and sustaining diverse boards and memberships. The group is asking those interested to fill out
this brief form by the end of the day on April 15 to help gather stories and highlight examples of progress in this area. They will be reviewing the responses
to recruit for participation in focus groups and/or one-on-one interviews. The group is interested in responses even if participation in a focus group is not desired. The form can also be submitted anonymously. We appreciate your participation and support
of the group’s mission.

Nominations for ALA Trustee Citation due April 7
United for Libraries is accepting
nominations
for the ALA Trustee Citation through April 7.
The
ALA Trustee Citation is presented during the Opening General Session at the ALA Annual Conference. Established in 1941 to recognize public library Trustees
for distinguished service to library development, the ALA Trustee Citation honors the best contributions and efforts of the estimated 60,000 American citizens who serve on library boards. Nominations are evaluated by the United for Libraries Awards & Honors

May 11 webinar to cover ‘First Amendment Audits:
What Your Library Board and Staff Need to Know’

What should library staff do when self-proclaimed “citizen journalists” enter the library claiming a right to question employees and film in
any space accessible to the public? The May 11 webinar “First
Amendment Audits: What Your Library Board and Staff Need to Know”, presented by United for Libraries and the ALA Office for Intellectual Freedom, will share how you can prepare by adopting well-crafted policies and training staff.
This program will also cover the library as a public forum and the necessary components of user behavior policies and meeting room policies.
The program will include opportunities to participate in role-play scenarios that demonstrate best practices when board members interact with library users and members of the public. The program will include a Q&A with presenters Deborah Caldwell-Stone (pictured),
sirector of ALA’s Office for Intellectual Freedom and Executive Director of the Freedom to Read Foundation, and Lori Fisher, Assistant State Librarian for New Hampshire.
