The Board of Trustees of the White Lake Community Library is looking for a dynamic, experienced candidate for the position of Director. The position REQUIRES a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Master’s degree in library science or library and information science from a program accredited by the American Library Association is PREFERRED. In addition, the position requires a minimum of three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in a professional library position, of which at least two (2) years have been in a position of administration and supervision in a public library.

The candidate will be a community-oriented individual who values the opportunity to interact with the public as a hands-on director, is flexible and energetic, has strong communications skills and is comfortable with public speaking. The candidate needs a comprehensive understanding of library finances and budgeting and has an overall understanding of current public library operations and services; including a knowledge of computers and the digital delivery of books and other materials. Successful experience in working with Friends of the Library, and in fund-raising and grant writing are desirable. Salary: $45,000-$52,000 dependent on experience and educational qualifications, plus an excellent benefits package.

The White Lake Community Library is located on a beautiful wooded site in Whitehall, Michigan adjacent to the bike trail. It serves a population of 11,811 residents making it a Class III library with a budget of $375,000 and a dedicated staff of 12 part-time employees with the Director being full-time. The Library enjoys excellent community support with an active Friends of the Library organization, a committed Board of Trustees, and a professional, friendly staff. Through the library’s shared catalog, nearly four million items are available at 41 Lakeland Library Cooperative member libraries. The Library has active children programming, ancestry search capabilities and a variety of family activities. In the heart of West Michigan, the White Lake Area is a beautiful lakefront community made up of the welcoming towns of Montague and Whitehall. These quaint towns encompass the White River, beautiful White Lake, and majestic Lake Michigan and its sandy shores. With a rich history in logging, the White Lake Area now boasts four-seasons of enjoyment with miles and miles of bike trails, museums, free summer concerts, quaint shops, water park and rollercoasters, a farmer’s market and artisan market, a variety of performances at our Playhouse, groomed snowmobiling trails, boating, sailing, fishing, golfing, family friendly parks, the White River Lighthouse, and various arts and cultural festivals.
