Inner Space to Outer Space: The Great Lakes' Contribution to Space Exploration & Research

The Great Lakes have served as a training ground throughout the history of aviation. Nineteenth-century balloon ascensions, early military and civilian aircraft development, the quest to break the sound barrier, and rocket launches all occurred on the lakes. An assortment of objects, both human-made and natural, have also fallen from space into the lakes.

Join the Alpena County Library's Special Collections Department and Wayne R. Lusardi, State Maritime Archaeologist on Thursday, January 14 from 6:00 - 7:00 pm to hear some of the stories of how the inland seas relate to outer space!

This program is in collaboration with Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary. It will be live-streamed via Facebook and is appropriate for all ages. No registration required.
