Hi! Attached are the grant applications for the Metro Detroit Book & Author Society to be presented at the Fall luncheon. The 2018 Elaine R. Irvin Friends Award Applications are invited for a $2,000.00 Elaine R. Irvin Friends Award grant to be awarded to a Friend of the Library group in the metropolitan-Detroit area by the Metro-Detroit Book & Author Society. This grant is awarded to support a program or project that fills a significant need affecting the library’s patrons and community. Friends of the Library groups in the metropolitan-Detroit area are eligible to apply. The grant will be presented at the Fall 2018 Book & Author Luncheon on Monday, October 15, 2018, at Burton Manor in Livonia. The winner will receive two complimentary tickets to the Fall 2018 luncheon and must be present to receive the grant. The award was established to honor the late Elaine R. Irvin, who was a devoted member of the Metro-Detroit Book & Author Society Board for many years. Elaine worked for the Friends of the Detroit Public Library and was dedicated to the principle that “good libraries need good Friends.” The 2018 Dick Johnston Award Applications are invited for a $2,000.00 Dick Johnston Award grant from the Metro-Detroit Book & Author Society. This grant is awarded to a public library in the metropolitan-Detroit area for the purpose of establishing or improving a library collection. Public libraries in the metropolitan-Detroit area are eligible to apply. The grant will be presented at the Fall 2018 Book & Author Luncheon on Monday, October 15, 2018, at Burton Manor in Livonia. The winner will receive two complimentary tickets to the Fall 2018 luncheon and must be present to receive the grant. The award was established to honor the late Dick Johnston, who was a member of the Metro-Detroit Book & Author Society and served as its president in 1980 and 1981. Mr. Johnston was also President of the Michigan Library Association and Director of the Birmingham and Bloomfield Township Libraries. Applications are due no later than Monday, October 1, 2018.
