Jackson District Library was pleased to host Larry Martin and guest Sigrid Burkhardt Howard who was born in Berlin, Germany in 1927. She was by her own
words “brainwashed” into thinking Hitler was a god as a member of the Hitler Youth and believed everything he said. She was “de-Nazifide” after the war and later married an American soldier. The program drew a huge crowd and the audience was
enthralled by the talk and !&A.
On October 1, Larry invites Don Mericle, a United States Navy Gunner’s Mate aboard the USS Cofer APD-62. He will talk about his assignment on the Destroyer
escort; invasions; and rescues during his enlistment. Martin will also have a collection of World War II memorabilia on display. This presentation is free and open to the public.
Mr. Martin has presented a 4-part series at Jackson District Library for the past 10 years bringing over 4,000 people to see and hear about personal experiences
from Veterans who served in WWII and how the war had affected citizens from different walks of life.
If your library is interested in hosting one of Larry’s presentations, he can be reached at
