Summer Library Program 2023 Round Table #2

Thursday, February 2, 2023

10:30 am – Noon ET

Attend either date above and bring your summer program ideas, no matter the age group to share at our virtual round tables. Participants are encouraged to bring at least one program idea to share with the group. Program ideas may or may not be related to the CSLP theme "All Together Now," and can be geared for any age, including teens & adults. We want to hear what your library is up to and what you're excited about! We will also have the opportunity to discover all of the exciting ways the Michigan Learning Channel (MLC) and PBS Kids can support engagement and learning in your community this summer. See a sampling of the MLC summer program resources, including specific All Together Now themed activities and resources, on-demand videos and hands-on activities from a variety of local, regional, and national educational partners, and ideas for in-person events and programming provided by the MLC engagement team.
Attendees of this round table will walk away with ideas and contacts to customize the summer program for your community. These virtual round tables will not be recorded.

Youth Services Basics – Niche Academy

The Youth Services Basics course is now available in LM’s Niche Academy Staff Skills! This self-paced course is designed as an introduction to library services for public library staff who are new to libraries and/or working with youth. Whether you are already working in a library or just starting out in a new youth services position, this content will help you consider why library services focusing specifically on youth are important, how to collect appropriate materials, the types of services and programs you can provide to your patrons, and the importance of outreach services.

This course contains an Overview of Youth Services, followed by age-specific sections on Early Childhood, School Age Children, and Tweens & Teens. An accompanying workbook has also been included and library staff can complete the sections to earn badges.

To access this course, login to LM’s Staff Skills, select the “Children/YA” category, and scroll down to “The Youth Services Basics” course.

This course was created in collaboration by the Indiana State Library, Library of Michigan, Montana State Library, and the Tennessee State Library and Archives, with support from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
