Tickets for 2016 Alpena Reads Author William Kamkwamba now on sale at Library

“All things are made possible when your dreams are powered by your heart.” William Kamkwamba.

Tickets for William Kamkwamba’s Alpena Reads author talk are now on sale at the Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library. Tickets may also be purchased online at www.alpenalibrary.org or by calling 989-356-6188, ext. 10. Tickets are $10 each.

Kamkwamba’s visit will be the culmination of a community-wide read of his book The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, a non-fiction account of how famine and hardship in his home country of Malawi inspired Kamkwamba to build a windmill that changed his life and his community. Picture book, young adult, and adult versions of his story are available at the library, with more being ordered because of high demand. Copies of all three versions will also be available for purchase at the library later this summer.

As part of Alpena Reads, the library and other community organizations are hosting a variety of programs and events to help readers explore Kamkwamba’s book in more depth. These are free and open to the public. Please check the library’s website for details.

Alpena Reads is an annual community read of a selected book, sponsored by the Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library, that culminates with a visit and talk by the author. The read includes library and community events, programs and activities that help readers more fully understand the chosen book, its context and its author. "Arrangements for the appearance of William Kamkwamba made through HarperCollins Speakers Bureau, NY, NY."

Questions regarding the event can be directed to Library Director Eric Magness-Eubank, 989.356.6188 x 11 or emeacl@alpenalibrary.org
