Jackson District Library (JDL) is happy to announce the completion of the Meijer Branch Library’s 8,500 sq. ft. addition and the renovation of the original building! JDL will host a dedication of the library and celebration for the Jackson County residents on Saturday, August 9 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Join us at 10:00 am for a formal dedication of the library and ribbon cutting. At 11:30 am, Cranbrook Institute of Science staff will present fun and exciting activities for the whole family. Enjoy some great refreshments, too!

Dinosaurs – Learn about fossils and casts of different dinosaurs and become a paleontologist by digging for bones.
Electricity - See how electricity can be generated, create a circuit to power a light or motor and harness electricity to make a simple device.
Bug Out - Observe live and specimen bugs using magnifying glasses and microscopes to learn their unique characteristics.
Simple Machines - See how gears, pulleys and wedges each act to give us an advantage when performing work.
Things that Fling - Compare catapults, try a model trebuchet and build a simple catapult to take home.

The library’s new addition features a space for teens, quiet study and tutoring rooms, a digital media studio, more computers, a fireplace and a book store operated by the library's Friends group.  A drive-thru has also been included for after-hours pickup and drop off of materials. New features to the renovated space include a community room, complete with kitchenette, which can accommodate large groups for events as well as new spaces and activity areas for young children and families.
